Legal Aid Western Australia provide information, advice and other legal help. The type and amount of help you will get depends on your finances, your legal problem and Legal Aid's resources.
Information services: through a telephone information line, community legal education, website and a range of publications and kits.
Legal advice: through duty lawyers at court or legal advice sessions, either face to face, over the telephone or by video conference to people in remote areas.
Minor assistance: through solicitors or paralegal advisors who may be able to help you negotiate, write letters, draft documents or prepare to represent yourself in court.
Duty Lawyer: limited representation and assistance through duty lawyer services available in a range of courts.
Legal representation: through lawyers working for Legal Aid as well as private lawyers for family, civil and criminal law matters falling within Legal Aid WA Guidelines. People must also have incomes and assets below a certain level to qualify for their own lawyer.
Specialist Services: Legal Aid also provides specialist services through: Domestic Violence Legal Unit Alternative Dispute Resolution Unit Corruption and Crime Commission Representation Fund Children's Court (Protection) Services.
Legal Aid also works closely with private lawyers, community legal centres and other groups in the community.
